Are you fed up with that bloated feeling? Or that annoying belly fat that just won’t shift no matter what you throw at it?
Well, help is at hand, as there are certain metabolism boosting foods that you could be eating to beat this.
By incorporating these top 20 fast fat burning foods for easy weight loss into your diet as much as possible you’ll soon be looking super lean and buff in no time, trust us.
However, losing fat and keeping it off in the long term does involve taking out of your diet damaging, toxic, anti-nutrients.
These can come in the form of trans fats, sugars, and fast or fried foods. And all of which should be replaced with healthy, omega rich fats from nuts, seeds, grains, fruits and vegetables.
Take things one step at a time
You don’t need to give everything up straight away, just gradually replace the junk foods you buy with healthier alternatives. After all, long term health, vitality, clarity, and protection from disease should always be your long term goal, along with getting the body you desire.
Make small steps towards your goal one day at a time. For instance, cut out refined sugars the first week, then move on to all refined carbs and processed foods once you feel you are ready. This will offer you a greater, long-term success rate.
The fat torching foods on the list should be incorporated into your diet as replacements for, and not on top of, some of your less desirable food choices.
A great thing about all the foods on this list is they are low GI which means they help burn dangerous stomach fat specifically!

Top 18 Foods to Eat to Lose Fat Fast
Fermented foods like miso, tempeh, sauerkraut, and plant based yogurts with added live cultures all contain friendly bacteria, all of which help the gut function better to reduce bloating.
If you don’t like these foods, then you could alternatively take a good supplement for a couple of months to help reduce sugar cravings and allow you to kick start your weight loss.
Two types of probiotics that are specific to this are lactobacillus gesseri, or a probiotic blend called VSL#3 that delivers 450 billion good bacteria that come in 8 different strains.
These guys will feed your friendly bacteria (those probiotics), thus helping them to proliferate. For this you should eat artichoke, dandelion greens, raw and cooked onion, garlic, leeks, asparagus, oats, wheatbran and bananas. Do all this and those friendly little bacteria will be very happy indeed.
Raw, unsalted almonds are a filling and convenient snack containing vitamin E, copper, magnesium, filling protein, vitamins and antioxidants.
Almonds are also heart healthy (due to the fact they help lower bad cholesterol) and high in fiber, which keeps you fuller for longer. And as if all that wasn’t enough, about 15% of nut’s calories aren’t even absorbed.
Walnuts are another wonderful little nut full of ALA (Alpha Linolenic Acid) which are healthy omega 3 fats.
They are also high in the amino acid l- arginine.
L- arginine increases fat loss whilst boosting muscle mass, and increases the activity of insulin which manipulates those hormones that help to metabolise body fats.
Walnuts are also heart healthy, so have a lot to offer alongside their fat burning abilities.
As with all nuts, you must maintain portion control or you will actually gain weight. One portion of nuts = 25g (this is equivalent to a small handful).
5. HIGH CACAO CHOCOLATE AND CACAO NIBS
No, it’s not to good to be true! High cacao chocolate of at least 70% cacao solids is a fantastic source of magnesium, potassium, and many other powerful antioxidants. These all help enhance mood, boost energy, and most importantly BURN FAT!
Another important aspect of dark chocolate is the fact it contains a chemical called anandamide that releases feelings of euphoria, helping you to feel contented and relaxed. And when you feel relaxed, you are way less likely to indulge in emotional eating patterns.
Just be careful not to overindulge as chocolate is still high in calories, and too much cacao can be over stimulating, especially before bed.
6. HEMP SEEDS
A couple of tablespoons of raw, shelled hemp seeds added to any meal or snack is a fantastic aid to weight loss. Hemp seeds are not only satiating, but high in omega 3’s. And as is the case with other omega 3 boasting foods, they have been shown to have anti-obesity properties, help regulate mood, sleep cycles, hormones, and reactions to stress.
Hemp seeds are also high in protein, nutrients, enzymes, and contain ALL of the amino acids, making them fantastic for vegans, plant based esters, and those in training in particularly.
7. PUMPKIN SEEDS
These little seeds are nutritional bombs! They are high in protein, and a good source of fiber, magnesium, manganese, zinc, phosphorus, copper and iron. Pumpkin seeds can help reduce body fat by lowering blood sugar and reducing insulin resistance.
They also contain tryptophan, which may help you get a restful nights sleep. This in turn suppresses the hunger hormone ghrelin to stop you from over eating the next day.
8. NUTRITIONAL YEAST
Nutritional yeast deserves superfood and weight loss status simply due to its high amount of protein (a whopping 50%). It also has an all-round array of B-vitamins, including thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and B12.
This yeast is also high in zinc and fiber, and can act as an anti viral, anti bacterial immune booster that promotes healthy skin, hair and nails. Above all, it contains chromium that may help control blood sugar, thus making it a good weight control food.
Pulses include beans, lentils, chickpeas and peanuts; all of which are full of protein, fiber, minerals and B-vitamins.
They are all low GI foods (the term used for the rate that carbohydrates are turned to sugar in the body – the lower the better), so therefore help to keep your blood sugar stable. Stable blood sugar will make you feel less like snacking on bad foods.
Pulses sustain you
Pulses release their energy slowly over hours, which means they sustain you for long periods. They are best paired with a low G.I. carbohydrates such as brown rice, wholegrain pasta or versatile quinoa. Eating them like this will ensure an even slower release of energy over a period of hours.
Black beans (or darker beans such as kidney beans) have higher levels of phenolic compounds. These compounds can interfere with the absorption of glucose (a good thing), and therefore can help with weight management even more than the other types of pulses out there.
10. WHOLE GRAINS
Whole grains include granary bread, brown rice, wholemeal pasta, oats, quinoa, barley and millet.
The wholegrain family (as opposed to their refined counterparts) are much lower GI, and are a great source of fiber and B-vitamins.
Quinoa in particular takes the crown here, and quite rightfully so. It’s not only a source of carbohydrate, but also protein, omega 3’s, and it has a good amount of all the amino acids.
This versatile little seed contains twice as much fiber as other grains, high iron levels, magnesium, riboflavin, manganese, antioxidants, and lysine which is good for tissue growth repair.
It is yet another low GI food, so can therefore help reduce blood sugar, insulin and triglyceride levels.
11. SPIRULINA AND CHLORELLA
More of Nature’s true superfoods, these two are great detoxifiers of heavy metals in the body. Detoxifying the body can kick start your weight loss due to the fact that toxins are stored in fat cells.
These fat cells need to keep replicating to accommodate the onslaught of not only too much junk food, but also other environmental toxins.
Fresh water algae are one of the highest sources of plant proteins. They boast high amounts of vitamin A, magnesium, calcium, iron, and are anti-diabetic. Chlorella in particular has been shown to help ease fibromyalgia.
Green Superfood Powder
Another fantastic green powder supplement is Dr. Schulzes green superfood powder. This superfood is a high quality, high grade, super greens powder blend that contains a mix of spirulina, seaweeds, blue-green algae, fruits, vegetables, phytonutrients and antioxidants.
You really feel the kick of energy within 15 minutes of drinking this energy boosting powder, making it perfect for when you need a quick energy fix.
Dr, Schulze’s superfood also makes your skin glow, aids detoxification, and is a powerful immune booster.
This powder is among the most highly nutrient dense foods available on the planet right now. Definitely something that is worth investing in alongside a healthy diet Please check it out here.
Cinnamon is a fragrant spice that can help control weight by keeping blood sugars stable and controlling insulin quantities. It also acts directly on actual blood sugar levels. In fact, a sprinkle of cinnamon with your food can lower a meal’s G.I. easily and inexpensively.
All of this is great in terms of potential weight loss benefits. Just think long term; half a teaspoon a day sprinkled on your breakfast, along with these other fat burning tips will all add up over time.
Cinnamon may also help speed up metabolism, suppress appetite, lower cholesterol, and control sugar cravings. But, best of all it is one of the easiest belly fat burning foods to incorporate into your diet due to its versatility.
Ceylon versus cassia cinnamon
Make sure you choose a good quality cinnamon as many store bought pots of pre-ground cinnamon may be old, rancid, and bulked up with fillers.
The best way to use cinnamon is to buy the flaky bark variety and grind it yourself in either a coffee grinder or a pestle and mortar. Doing it this way will his way will keep it fresh, fragrant and super delicious. Plus, grinding freshly will help keep all its delicious, fragrant oils and nutrients in tact.
Always buy Ceylon cinnamon where possible
There are two types of cinnamon – ceylon and cassia, and they can be very different. It is important you buy the ceylon type with the flaky bark (see pic), and not the cassia type which is rolled into a thick hard roll and can actually be detrimental to health if taken in high doses.
Many pre-ground shop bought cinnamon will be the cheaper cassia variety. However, it will rarely tell you on the packaging exactly what you’re getting, and the very reason why it’s best to grind your own.
You’ve more than likely been eating the cassia cinnamon your whole life without realising, but the health benefits are not the same as the ceylon.
Please read more here on how to use cinnamon for weight loss and put this to the test for yourself.
13. GREEN TEA
Green tea is drunk in copious amounts all over Asia, and it has served them well. It contains a myriad of antioxidants, including the polyphenol EGCG found ONLY in green tea leaves.
EGCG is known to improve brain function and physical performance, kill bacteria in the body, is heart friendly, and may also help prevent type 2 diabetes along with a myriad of other proven benefits.
And the best part, green tea also raises your metabolism, which in turn helps you to burn fat more efficiently.
As one of the highest protein vegetables, broccoli is also a cheap food to burn fat fast. It’s full of fiber to keep you feeling full, and also has the specific phytonutrient sulforaphane that stimulates fat cells, thus allowing you to burn fat faster.
Another added incentive to eat this fab veg is it has also been found to contain a compound that can convert estrogen into a harmless metabolite. So for fat loss terms, less estrogen (which has been associated with thigh, stomach and hip fat) my mean more weight loss.
Berries of all kinds are low GI and choc full of antioxidants and fiber, making them ALL very healthful.
Antioxidants not only protect you from cell damage, but also help with controlling weight. So, eating lots of antioxidant rich foods is very important.
Raspberries and blueberries in particular, not only boost metabolism, but help prevent visceral fat (which is the deep internal stomach fat) from forming. This is the most dangerous kind of fat as it carries a higher risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Frozen berries make delicious smoothies!
Adding a portion of berries to your daily diet may help keep your weight under control. Or, try adding them frozen to smoothies for an ice-cold treat.
Don’t forget, frozen fruits and vegetables are often fresher because they are rapidly frozen as soon as they are picked, thus holding in all their nutrients.
Grapefruit is a great fat buster as it reduces insulin resistance and decreases your blood sugar levels. Plus, it contains a chemical that helps prevent the body from storing fat.
A study at the Scripps clinic in San Diego discovered that eating half a grapefruit before a meal 3 times a day helped the participants to lose 4lbs in 12 weeks. This is a finding that cannot be ignored, especially as their diet was the same in every other way.
Granted, you’re probably not going to eat half a grapefruit before every single meal indefinitely, but even once a day will add up over time.
Bananas actually help to speed up your metabolism, and help your body build lean muscle tissue at the same time.
This simple fruit is also famously high in potassium which makes it a great post workout food.
Bananas are high in fiber, which keeps you fuller for longer to stop you snacking on high-calorie junk. At around only 100 calories a pop, they are a great fat busting option.
Luckily for us, they naturally come in a handy, snack size package to pop into your bag or lunch box.
We are deliberately saving the best for last, as avocados are (along with quinoa) are another king of the superfoods. Not only when it comes to weight loss, but because they have a myriad of other fantastic benefits too!
Firstly, it has been proven that eating avocado regularly will cause satiety, fill you up, give you a good dose of heart healthy monounsaturated fat, protect eyes from ultra violet light damage, lower bad cholesterol, is antimicrobial, and will also lower your BMI.
The avocado can help you to lose that stubborn and dangerous belly fat that we all loathe so much.
An avocado contains 20 different vitamins and minerals, making it not only a great fat burning food, but also an absolute powerhouse of nutrition.
It is important that you exercise portion control when it comes to eating the above foods, lest you ironically gain weight whilst eating too many “fat burning” foods. This is especially important with the high fat/calorie foods on this list.
Always know your BMI and the amount of calories your body needs to maintain or lose weight,. That way you can work out accurately how much food you can eat without gaining.
You MUST ONLY use these foods as part of your daily calorie intake (and not on top of) if you want to actually lose weight with them.
Last but not least, if you really want to up the benefits of these fat burning foods then ,you should also check out these other fat burning tips.
Eating the foods on this list is a great start, but not the whole story.

I enjoyed my visit on your website today, and it is very useful to know which foods are super fat burning foods to add more to our diets.
I plan to add more of the foods you recommend in my own diet, I know this will help many people to be eating more of the better foods to maintain their weight.
I am glad I have given you some useful information and that you enjoyed your visit. Brilliant. Feel free to ask me any more questions about diet/ exercise etc if ever you need to in the future. I will be happy to help. Thanks
Well there are definitely a few more foods I’m gonna need to start eating before my holiday. I have to say I’m not a big fan of beans, lentils and chickpeas, it’s just something about they’re texture that puts me off. But I were to have some dinner recipes to include them in then I guess it would be easier to make the effort, like mixing some in with a stir-fry or chilli. Do you know of any dishes I could try?
Glad I could be of some help. And yes my absolute favorite recipe is vegan chocolate chilli. i know it may sound weird but it is a thing and you must use really dark chocolate of at least 70% cocoa (which is another fat burning food by the way, as are chilli peppers so you can get them all into the same dish).
You basically just need to fry some onions, chillies and garlic in oil then add the spices like cumin, paprika or cayenne if you like it really hot and dry fry for a few minutes then add 2 tins chopped tomatoes and about 40g dark chocolate let it melt in and add about 3 different tins of beans like butter beans, kidney beans, black beans. Simmer for 15 mins and its done. I make this at least once a week and have it for days. Really cheap as well!
I eat 20-25 almonds a day as my pre-lunch snack. One thing that I do with them is soak overnight. This helps to soften nuts a bit so it is easier to digest.
Hi Robert, yes you are right and I will actually update my website to reflect that. Pre-soaking is definitely easier on the digestion, plus it helps activate the digestive enzymes and you will absorb more nutrients. thanks for pointing that out!
Hi, I did not realize that almonds and walnuts were a fat burning food.I always thought that nuts although tasty were full of fats. Thanks for the information, I learned something today that will benefit myself.
Yes they are full of fat but in moderate amounts it is a good, heart healthy omega rich fat so you should have a handful of nuts a day (should be unroasted and unsalted for maximum benefits). Also, the fat in them is satiating so you don’t feel the urge to eat other more unhealthy fatty foods. Glad I could be of some help to you.
Very Informative post which opens our eyes to a whole new world of healthy living. The suggestion on ground cinnamon is really fantastic and worth keeping in mind. The light thrown on the nuts which break many of the preconceived notions of the people is also worth emulating and remembering.
Hi Alok, I’m really glad you found my post informative. I myself fit a lot of these foods around my everyday diet and they definitely keep my weight under control. Without a doubt! And yes, the nuts are a great one aren’t they!
This is an interesting piece for me, not only because it gives an insight into how I can melt my unwanted body fat but also because the topic of discussion is similar to article I posted on my website and it compliments my own position.
I’m so happy that we are thinking in the same direction. I align with you on this and also want to recommend that we should also look at the possibility and benefits of combining two or more of these foods in our daily meal. This is a brilliant piece. Keep it up.
Hi Abi, I’m really glad you found my article interesting. I do try to combine many of these foods into my diet everyday and find that it definitely keeps my weight under control. It’s amazing because I love my food and hate depriving myself and now I don’t have to.And yes, good idea about combining the foods into meals as some people would wonder how to add things easily into their diet.
I am interested to look at your site as we are in the same niche so I will have a look proper later when I get back from work. We must have like minds.
Hi there, thank you for the awesome list, I truly enjoyed the read. It made me wish you had a free download that I could save in my phone for my shopping trips. Looking forward to more posts.
Hi there, I’m really glad you enjoyed my article and I will be doing a lot more on similar topics as time goes by. That is a great idea about the free download and I will incorporate it in as soon as I learn how to (I am new to this). Please feel free to let me know if you need any more advice or have any more questions as I am here to help people on their weight loss journey.
Hi. I am happy to find in your article that cinnamon help control body weight and sugar blood level. Thank you for the useful article.
Hi Melani, thankyou and I’m glad the article has helped you
I found your article very helpful. There a few things I couldn’t but I’m sure that if. I include some of the fruits I should see some results. I have also started to drink a lot more water. Thank you for your advice Rita
I’m really glad you found my post helpful. Drinking more water alone will give your overall health a massive boost so keep up the good work. Thanks for your comment.
Interesting and beneficial article on super fat burning foods, I am happy to see many of the foods on your list I am eating regularly.
When I do indulge I eat dark chocolate, I do feel satisfied and content after eating dark chocolate. I eat a dark chocolate bar about once a week to ten days, this has not caused me any weight problems I am happy to say.
I’m glad to hear you are eating a good amount of these foods as they are also very healthy. I know what you mean about dark chocolate, I love it and eat it every day, probably way to much!! But it’s my only vice
The entire list looks delicious. Avocados are one of my favorite foods and you cannot go wrong with dark chocolate (well, unless you are allergic to it or something). I have seen nutritional yeast in many vegan recipes, but I am a little intimidated to find it in the grocery store. Any tips?
Thanks for reading my article and yes I love all those foods also, I try to eat most of them every day and I’m pretty sure they work even better together. (Especially the chocolate!) As for nutritional yeast, I have never seen it in your average supermarket but you can usually get it in health food stores, if not you could try online. It is pretty inexpensive to buy.
Hope this helps.
Wow I had no idea some of these foods were actually good to burn fat and help you stay healthy. Especially chocolate.
I am one who is very skinny so this doesn’t really apply to me, but I plan on working out soon so if I ever do need to a cut and burn off a few extra pounds of fat while building muscle — it is good to know there are tasty and healthy foods that do this.
Hi Micheal, I am glad you are lucky enough not to have to worry about your weight. I, however have struggled with it all my life, hence the reason for getting into the nutrition and fitness industry. I eat these foods every day and find they really do work, and isn’t it fantastic about chocolate? Mind you, it only applies if you don’t go over board. Anyway, it is fantastic that you will be working out soon, it really will make you feel amazing. When you do start working out be sure to check out my post on Highest Plant Based Protein Foods List
Very helpful article! I have learnt many things from your site. I saw your comment on my blog and it led me here:) I have written about avocado and banana but did not know there are many other foods out there to help contribute to weight loss.
Hi Kien, I am glad you found my article helpful, I always like to provide value and I think we can learn from each other. I’m also always on the lookout for new information in the weight loss industry so I will definitely head over to your site and take a look. Thanks
Thank you for this powerful article. I had been looking for information like this already. I am trying to lose weight, and I have lost a lot, but somehow my belly fat is not shrinking like it should. THere are some foods you mentiond that I did not know were beneficial when it comes to losing belly fat, especially chocolate and cinnamon. Of others I was aware of, like grapefruit.
I would like to know if there are some foods that prevent belly fat loss?
Hi Oscar, im glad you found this information useful, and congratulations on losing so much weight already. You really must have worked hard to achieve this result, but I guess now you have reached a plateau. This happens unfortunately, and just means you may need to step things up a notch, ie less calories, more exercise. Try to add these fat burning foods as part of your daily allowance.
As for foods that give you belly fat there are many, and they mostly come in the form of refined sugars and carbohydrates. Keeping belly fat off is all about eating low GI which will keep your blood sugar stable. Keeping blood sugar stable will stop your body being continuously flooded with insulin, which isn’t good because this insulin clears sugars from the blood and stores them into fat cells. And hence we put on weight. Another bad thing about these high sugar foods is that they make you put on belly fat specifically, so it’s vital to stick to a low GI diet for long term weight loss. Please read my post Low Glycemic Food List
Wow, I’m so happy to know that most of the foods on your list of fast fat burning foods are my favorites even without knowing how they can help lose weight.
I really love broccoli, bananas, grapefruits, and avocados. I also enjoy almonds, walnuts and whole grain breads and cereals.
I guess I’m gonna have to replace my regular coffee with green tea. Thanks you for such an informative post.
Hi Alice, yes a lot of people have said that! It’s great that we can have our favorite foods and still lose weight isn’t it? I think I probably have most things on that list almost every day and it certainly helps to keep me trim, along with lots of exercise of course. Which I think is a good point to make as I do believe keeping a healthy weight is about the correct balance of good diet and exercise. One without the other means you only get half the results.
And yes, green tea is a an excellent replacement for coffee (though you might not think so at first) as it still contains enough caffeine to give you a boost, but its kind of a cleaner caffeine that’s processed differently in the body, therefore I find it doesn’t give you the jitters or affect sleep like coffee can.
Wow! So glad I stumbled upon this post. I never knew that all the foods I love are good for fat-burning! This is great to know. I see that I am going to have to eat more avocados. I didn’t know that they protect eyes from ultra violet light damage, and lower bad cholesterol, which I have to address. Really interesting post and thank you!
Hi Amy I’m really glad you found the post informative, and it’s so great that they are all food you love. Me too! I eat most of them every day and they definitely help to keep my weight under control.
I think the key is to make sure you swap them with other more unhealthy foods rather than just add them on top as they do obviously contain calories.
Hi Sarah, yes these fat burning foods are really awesome and easy to add to literally every meal or snack to help keep your metabolism stoked. It’s doing lots of little things like this that adds up to big things.
I actually will include almonds in my diet, however, I want to have the best results for fat loss. I do intermittent fasting. What do you recommend for me?
Hi Furkan yes intermittent fasting is a great ting to do to keep weight off and to keep the body detoxified. I just wish I had the will power to do it myself but I love my food so much, also I do a lot of training so that would throw me out as I wouldn’t be able to do that. I would be interested to know how you fit your fasting around your training and how long you fast for?
I have a few little tips to help you keep the body in fat burning mode that are pretty much calorie free – always eat a grapefruit every day, have a 30ml shot of apple cider vinegar with ‘the mother’, in warm water and lemon juice every morning, and add ceylon cinnamon to your breakfast or shakes.
Always make sure you use the flaky bark ceylon cinnamon and not the hard bark cassia type as it is much healthier. Most supermarket bought ground cinnamon will be the casia type as it is much cheaper. Please read my post about this before you start using it
Wow, this list is endless and I learned so much on the various foods that can burn fat. Several I love and eat all the time. Others, I do love but I am going to try and incorporate them more into my daily eating routine. You always have great information and I love coming back to your site. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, I luckily love all these foods also and eat most of them everyday, and definitely ALL of them in the course of a week! Fortunately, many of them can easily be added into your everyday diet and meal plans and every little trick helps when it comes to keeping weight down. I find doing lots of little things really makes a big difference over time.
One thing that isn’t on the lit that you may find interesting is apple cider vinegar, though you must buy the type with ‘the mother’ as this has all the benefits. It has been proven to proven in trials to lower the sugar spikes you get after eating your meals which makes you eat less during the day, and you only have to have it once a day for it to work all day long.
Please read more in my post about it to find out amounts and best times to do it. It is worth checking out because it really does work. When I take ACV in the morning I really do feel less hungry during the day so therefore I will eat less resulting in weight loss. So win win!
Excellent Post Stefanie. Thanks for the information. Keep up the good work. I think I’m fixing to head out and buy some avocados, bananas, coconut oil and…he he he…chocolate!!
Ha ha, yes me too! I eat an awful lot of these things every day, but you do have to count them in with your calories and fat intake for the day and not have them just as ‘extra’ food on top otherwise I don’t think they will work, I always try to stress that to people like I think I did in the post. Oh, but avocados and dark chocolate are definitely my all time favorite things anyway, and they also happen to be on the list. Fantastic isn’t it?
Oh, I love dark chocolate and I know that it is good for helping with belly fat. So by high cocoa, you mean dark chocolate right? I was surprised with some of the other foods like yeast. I really didn’t realize it had so many vitamins! And I love bananas a cinnamon. All great things I can use for snacks.
Yes, yeast is a fantastic source of B Vitamins, in fact I use nutritional yeast flakes in lots of dishes as it has a cheesy kind of flavour. As I am a vegan now I can make vegan parmesan by wizzing up nutritional yeast, sesame seeds, salt, pepper and dried garlic flakes or powder. It is yum!
Yes, when I say high cacao chocolate then I mean the dark stuff – anything over 70% but preferably 85% as whatever percentage you have left is going to be sugar which is obviously bad for you. Other than that, go ahead and enjoy. It is probably best not to eat too much close to bedtime as it can have a stimulating effect so watch out for that.
Thanks for reading, and yes, get some of those lovely fat burning foods into your diet as they also have so many other benefits.
Hi there, thanks for that and I’m glad you have learnt something new. I eat these every day and it really does help!
Hello Stefanie. Another great article that’s why I love coming to your website, each new article I learn something new about taking better care of my health. I will be adding more of these foods into my diet. Funny it’ll be easy due to the fact I love just about all the foods you named. Thank you again Stefanie for the great article.
Hi David, that’s just great that you like all the foods on this list! I do too, and eat most of them every day. The great thing is you can pretty much get some, or at least one of them into every meal or snack, plus they are all pretty inexpensive. It’s always worth the time and effort in investing in our bodies… after all, where else are we gonna live? lol
Great article… and super informative. I have more belly fat now than I ever have, mainly because of some intensely high stress that lasted literally the last three years. I exercise regularly and do not eat sugar – have also cut back on carbs – very little breads etc. Would a diet with these foods help with stress induced weight gain or is there something else that could be added to help. I am getting pretty desperate.
Hi Corey, I’m sorry to hear that you had problems with stress for so long. Stress releases the hormone cortisol which unfortunately promotes fat storage. Without being able to go more in-depth with your symptoms and problems ,and due to the fact that you can’t lose weight even though you are putting in effort would suggest some kind of adrenal fatigue/slow thyroid (I am not an expert on this subject but I work with a medical herbalist and see this sort of thing quite a lot). These things are usually triggered by prolonged stress!
I would suggest keeping your sugar very low, eating high protein plant foods, and if you eat animal products then they should be high quality/organic if possible. You would also benefit from a green superfood powder every day to help give you a high dose of nutrients, plus soothe and boost the adrenal glands.
As for exercise, if you do actually have adrenal fatigue then I believe you have to stop exercising for a while (maybe 6 weeks) while you are working on nourishing and healing your body with good quality foods and staying away from any stress whatsoever. This is because exercise actually puts stress on the body and the adrenal glands and may well exacerbate the problem.
After this period is up then you should have hopefully reset things a bit and you can start training again. The best training you should do for burning belly fat is weight and resistance training. It’s crucial to keep muscle mass up to keep your hormonal system in balance and to keep fat off.
Anyway, I am just speculating here not making any diagnosis, you may ant to see a specialist about it but thyroid problems etc are usually the reason you can’t lose weight no matter how hard you try.
I’m going to drop you a couple of links that you may find helpful going forward
Thank you! I do eat meat but have added green superfood powder, literally this week! I went in for thyroid testing and nothing showed up but I think doing what I can to reset will help. I know something has been off. I will try your suggestions and let you know what the results are….
Hi Corey, I actually had my thyroid tested at the doctors and they said everything was fine, but when I showed the figures to the medical herbalist that I work with she said I was on the borderline for a slow thyroid, which was why I was having problems with not being able to lose weight.
The doctors test results just put you into a certain range and if you fall between that range, even if you’re just about to slide off it, they will still say all is fine. I’m not blaming them as this is all they can do as medicine isn’t given until after you are already sick. They don’t do preventatives as it would cost too much and take way too much time. I see this kind of thing all the time at work and it’s frustrating. I don’t know how old you are, but the fact is as we get older the thyroid does slow down and makes it harder to lose weight. Oh joy hey?
Please do let me know how you get on and if you don’t see results then I would go and see a proper medical herbalist who can definitely help with this naturally. That’s how I healed my problems in the end with a mixture of natural supplements and diet.
This is a great list of fast fat burning food! My favorites are almonds and walnuts. Unfortunately, both are very expensive in Portugal, where I live.
I didn’t know that Green Tea has also effects on how fast we burn fat. I’ll definitely give it a try.
Hi Mia, it’s a shame nuts are so expensive in Portugal – still, at least you’ve got the sunshine ha ha! Actually, nuts are pretty cheap here in the UK, you can pick them up in the pound shops and very inexpensively in the supermarkets. The organic ones are always much more more expensive to buy though.
Yes green tea is a great fat burner, as is white tea and many other drinks. In fact I have a post about fat burning drinks
Very good post Stefanie! This was extremely informative. I guess that I better stock up on avocados; a whole lot of them! Thanks for this!
Hi Evan, ha ha yes avocados are the best, I probably eat them almost every day as they help stop the dreaded sugar cravings which are my nemesis! I’m glad you enjoyed the article, you go stock up on those avocados.
This is great I am always looking for new healthy snacks. I am really happy to see that walnuts made the list of fast fat burning foods they are one of my favorite snacks.
I work out every day so protein powder is part of my daily diet. I think I am going to try the green superfood powder as a pre-workout drink because of the boost of energy it gives.
I also agree that the best way to lose weight is through diet AND exercise I didn’t even know they made a weighted hula hoop.
Wich one of these foods would you recommend as a snack between breakfast and lunch?
Hi Travis, that’s great you work out every day, I try to too which is why I always have to keep my diet healthy and to lots of high protein plant foods.
Yep, a weighted hula hoop is just such a fantastic and fun way to burn lots of calories and tone you belly and bottom. You can easily pick them up off of Amazon quite cheaply, and it’s an easy to do exercise at home, so great for those who can’t or don’t want to leave the house.
My go to snacks are usually either a protein shake as they are filling and low calorie, or a hand full of raw nuts and some fruit OR my fave as it gives you such an energy boost is a superfood powder. Usually I like to steer clear of anything too sugary as it throws your blood sugar out for the rest of the day, however if you are going to do a workout then it’s fine as you’ll need the energy – but I would only go for natural sugars though, such as dried dates, figs, and bananas. And I do have a weakness for dark chocolate!
At the moment I’m really into spirulina as it feels so nourishing to drink, but I don’t like to take the same thing all the time and often vary them up with Dr. Schulze’s super food, or whatever other blend I’m testing out. I think the blends are good because you get a bit of everything.
Hi Stefani, great article! I make a protein shake every day. It is plant-based and from Garden of Life. Plus, I add chia seeds and collagen peptides to it and makes me feel so much better.
I have hypothyroidism so I have to be careful not to eat certain green vegetable because it blocks fat-burning properties and halts the digestive system. I can’t eat Broccoli or kale and ripe bananas, peanuts among others.
I got a lot out of reading your article and I thank you for all the information!
That’s interesting that your hypothyroidism blocks the fat-burning properties of some of the food that are actual fat burning foods for others. I never knew this.
As for Garden of Life protein shakes they are one of my favorite brands as they are so high quality and a trusted company. Sounds like you do your best to stay as healthy as possible and I wish you all the luck with that.
I really enjoyed this list of fast fat burning foods. These are some great options. I especially like almonds, broccoli, and bananas.
Anyone who is trying to lose weight and be more healthy cannot go wrong with this list. As you mentioned there is no need to try everything at once, but instead gradually incorporate these tips into your diet a little by little and your body will be the healthier for it.
Thank you for sharing.
Hi Nate, I especially like those foods too, and almonds are something I always have in my cupboard and drawer at work as they are so easy to transport. In fact, they go really well with a banana to get a god mix of protein and complex carbs at the same time. I usually like to combine carbohydrates and protein as it makes for a much more substantial and filling snack.
I sincerely enjoyed this article! I didn’t know that whole grains were a good fat-burning source! I also didn’t know that protein powders were a good fat-burning source either! I will certainly keep these foods in mind!
Hi Alex, yes, I eat most of these foods every day to help keep the weight off, and with a good exercise plan it works pretty well. Also, a lot of these foods are actually pretty tasty so it’s easy.
