Citrus fruits help BURN FAT baby!

That is a scientifically proven fact that we have researched and has some solid evidence, even if it is in a round about way. This evidence applied specifically to grapefruits, so there really was a reason why those old eighties ‘grapefruit diets’ worked so well, if you stuck to them of course, which is an entirely other matter…

This grapefruit-citrus fat burner juice for weight loss is going to help you burn fat and stay trim when drunk regularly. The key is to do this daily, alongside other lifestyle changes for the results you are looking for.

Before we continue, it is always vital to mention that just drinking grapefruit juice alone is not going to help you lose weight if the rest of your diet is high calorie, high fat, junk foods. That’s not how this works, even though the grapefruit itself will help to satiate you and stop you eating as much.

The grapefruit juice diet is only used as a supplementation to enhance fat burning on an already healthy diet. This diet may also need to be calorie controlled, depending on how much weight you wish to lose.

Does Grapefruit Really Help You To Burn Fat?

While the old grapefruit diets dating back to the 1930’s touted that grapefruit had “magical” fat burning properties may not be exactly true in that sense, this wonderful fruit may help you to lose weight due to its other unique nutritional profiles.

When you add all these different weight loss pathways grapefruit has, you will begin to see how they all work together to boost your weight loss efforts. There will obviously be a stronger effect when you combine your grapefruit-citrus fat burner juice with the other lifestyle changes outlined above.

4 Ways Grapefruit Can Help With Weight Loss

1. Certain Bioactive Compounds

Grapefruits contain a number of bioactive phytochemicals that may contribute to weight loss.

Specifically, grapefruits contain a high amounts of a flavenoid called ‘naringenin‘. This compound has been found in both animal and human studies to demonstrate anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and more importantly, metabolic properties.

Some preclinical studies have found that the flavenoid ‘naringenin’ can activate PPAR-Alpha (a receptor involved in fatty acid oxidation) by influencing lepid metabolism. In layman’s terms, naringenin may promote the body to use fat for energy, rather than store it.

More than that, studies on rodents have shown naringenin may also lead to improvements in over-all metabolic profiles and a reduction in triglycerides.

Although studies on animals don’t necessarily translate to humans, they do offer a plausible foundation for us to believe that grapefruit may indeed help us to burn fat and contribute to over-all fat metabolism.

2. Blood Sugar Control

Grapefruit has a low glycemic index, meaning it has minimal impact on blood sugar. High blood sugar spikes promote fat storage, therefore a low GI diet is ultimately beneficial if you wish to keep weight under control and lower your risk of obesity and type-2 diabetes.

Some studies even suggest that grapefruit can enhance insulin sensitivity by reducing fasting insulin levels and improving insulin resistance markers. This suggest that grapefruit may be able to help support weight control beyond just reducing calories and dieting.

3. Appetite Regulation and Satiety

Grapefruit is very high in water and fibre, just two reasons why it helps delay stomach emptying, which fills you up for longer. This means you will do less snacking on high GI, high calorie foods throughout your day.

One study published in the ‘Journal of Medicine’ reported that participants eating half a grapefruit before meals lost more weight than those who did not. And this was without changing their diet, or consciously “dieting”, in any other way.

This goes to show that grapefruit does indeed, through a variety of means, help bolster weight loss.

4. Nutrient Density

Grapefruit is jam packed full of nutrients. Nutrient-rich foods are well-known to boost satiety because the body is not crying out for more nutrients, and hence, more food.

Half a grapefruit is only around 50 calories, high in vitamin C, fibre, potassium, antioxidants, and water – all of which add to feelings of ‘fullness’ and satiety.

All this, along with the fact that grapefruit has a much lower sugar content than many other fruits, makes it lower calorie and also helps put a stop to sugar cravings.

The pectin in this citrus fruit also supports digestion slows down the absorption of the sugars into the bloodstream – an essential factor in blood sugar control, sugar craving control, and ultimately weight loss.

How Much Grapefruit Should I eat For Weight Loss?

If you wish to use our citrus-grapefruit fat burner juice for weight loss, then you should be aiming to have around 200ml of the juice before each meal.

Drinking the juice before a meal is by far the most effective way to balance blood sugar, reduce cravings, and even lower the amount of food you will be able to eat.

The recipe below should yield you enough juice to last you for one day, if you make it in the morning.

We have added lemons and oranges to this fat flusher juice because they both also have their own amazing properties for weight loss, along with many other benefits.

The optional pinch of cinnamon or ginger powder can further enhance blood sugar control.

Alternatively, if you do not wish to make a homemade grapefruit juice like this, you could just eat half a grapefruit before a meal.

Red OR yellow grapefruits are permittable. The red are sweeter, the yellow more bitter.

Should I Use Fresh Fruits?

Most certainly a YES! When it comes to any fruit juices, you want them to be fresh and contain the whole fruit with all the fibres intact, like this recipe.

Buying pasteurised fruit juice,s or even juicing fruits yourself (especially if you discard the fibre), will most certainly mean some of the fibre and goodness has been removed. When the fibre is removed from any food, it becomes a refined product, thus placing it high on the glycaemic index scale. It will mess with your blood sugar. This means it may make you GAIN weight, rather than the opposite.

This grapefruit-citrus fat flusher will contain ALL of its fibre because you will be blending it, rather than juicing.

Grapefruit-Citrus Fat Burner Juice For Weight Loss

A fat burning juice with all the citrus fruits!
Total Time 3 minutes
Course Snack
Servings 1
Calories 300 kcal

Equipment

  • High speed blender
  • Hand orange juicer

Ingredients

  • Make sure all your fruits have been refrigerated until very cold, as your blender will produce heat.
  • 3-4 oranges depending on size
  • 1-2 lemons
  • 1.5 large grapefruits pink or yellow
  • Pinch of cinnamon and ginger powder optional
  • Couple of ice cubes optional

Instructions

  • Remove the outer skins and seeds of all your citrus fruits.
  • The best way to do this is to place your fruit on a chopping board, then use a knife to cut around and remove the outer skin before you cut the fruit. Do not be concerned about leaving white pith on there. This is in fact very good for you and you should blend it up in your smoothie too.
  • Once you have removed outer skin, slice your fruit in half and remove as many seeds as you can. Leaving a couple accidently will not harm you and will just blend up with the juice, but too many will be bitter.
  • Blend all ingredients for at least 60-90 seconds to make your juice.
Alternatively, use a hand juice squeezer, but be sure to also tip the pulp into your juice at the end for the added fibre.
  • Drink 1/3rd of your juice before meals.
